Psalm 93

The Lord Reigns

In Psalm 93, we're presented with a hymn of God's majestic sovereignty and eternal reign. As we explore this passage under the lens of the New Covenant, we are reminded of Christ's lordship and His ultimate victory over all earthly and spiritual powers.

Section 1: The Majesty and Eternity of God's Reign (Verses 1-2)

"The Lord reigns; he is robed in majesty; the Lord is robed; he has put on strength as his belt. Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved. Your throne is established from of old; you are from everlasting."

Harmony This imagery aligns with Revelation 19:16, where Jesus is revealed as the King of kings and Lord of lords, with everlasting dominion over the world.

Section 2: The Power of God Over Natural Forces (Verses 3-4)

"The floods have lifted up, O Lord, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift up their roaring. Mightier than the thunders of many waters, mightier than the waves of the sea, the Lord on high is mighty!"

Harmony This section aligns with the account in Matthew 8:23-27 where Jesus, with a single command, calms a violent storm, demonstrating His lordship over natural elements.

Talking Points:

Section 3: The Holiness and Surety of God's Decrees (Verse 5)

"Your decrees are very trustworthy; holiness befits your house, O Lord, forevermore."

Harmony This verse harmonizes with Matthew 5:18, where Jesus assures that not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished, reaffirming the trustworthiness of God's decrees.

Talking Points:

Psalm 93:1-5 is a powerful depiction of God's supreme sovereignty, His dominion over the forces of nature, and the holiness and trustworthiness of His decrees.

As we relate this to the New Covenant, we see the lordship of Christ (Revelation 19:16), His command over natural elements (Matthew 8:23-27), and the surety of His word (Matthew 5:18).

Understanding these aspects empowers us to live with confidence, knowing that our King is unrivaled and His promises are trustworthy. His reign is eternal, His power supreme, and His holiness endures forevermore.
