I'm Happy the National Election is Over!
November 6, 2008
A recent email arrived in my InBox with the subject line of "Pastor Removal from Television." It's but one of the many lies sent through the Internet that Christians all too often fall for. (You too?) What does all of this say of Christians who profess to love truth and truthfulness?
I think email hoaxes must begin at the keyboard of an atheist. He thinks to himself, how can I make those disciples of Christ look and behave like idiots. "Ah!! I've got it!" "I'll compose a simple email to sound the alarm for Christians who intend to carry their Bible onto the airlines that they will have to dispose of their bibles before they can go through airport security. If they refuse to dump their Bibles they will be denied entry to their flight gate."
So he goes about composing his little hoax with a little added frosting on his "make Christians idiots" masterpiece. He directs the recipient to do three things:
1. Email or write your congressional representative and instruct him or her to reject House Bill #1111.,
2. Add your name to this email and then,
3. Forward this email to all of your Christian friends.
Once the evil hoax creator finishes his composition he goes about joining an Christian email list over at YahDahDupe under a disposable email address. He then posts the hoax email to the unsuspecting email YahDahDupe distribution list and voila! The dastardly deed is set in motion. Within a few minutes he has passed his work of art on to millions of dumb sheep all over the world.
Early on the next morning he opens his InBox and there it is. His work of deception has made its way to China and back but it returns with the addition of million names who bought the lie. Imagine that! They've even signed their names to lend their support. Now he has hundreds of thousands of names he can Look Up on the Internet search engines. As he leans back into his chair he is heard whispering under his breath... "WHAT IDIOTS!"
Christians are such gullible idiots and I'd like to know why. I ask this question because, if we so easily fall for the lies and rumors that come through email, then we must be really dropping the ball when the liar comes to visit our local churches and then enters our pulpits.
So are Christians really gullible idiots? You tell me. I believe the evidence is in the sheer quantity of hoax emails sent by Christians. We can also change things by helping to bring an end to hoax emails sent and forwarded by Christians to one another. If we fail to do so we will never be taken serious by the people who represent us in congress. How do you and I accomplish such a lofty goal? It's easy. Just refuse to send idiot making hoax email to others. At the very least verify the truthfulness of the content before forwarding to others. As someone whose email address is widely distributed on the Net I feel the pain of unwanted hoax and spam email more than the typical Christian. It goes with the territory. It has also demonstrated to me very clearly that Christians on the Net are very gullible and guilty of neglect. As an aside I have come to yet another worrisome conclusion. After the saints hear the gospel messages I bring I'm hoping and praying they will take some serious time to examine what I've shared under the microscope of God's Word. For some unexplained reason I really doubt there are Christians on the planet who still serve as good Bereans.
Stop being a Christian idiot and trash that hoax email!!!
Grace!
