Temple of God

I was reflecting upon the trip Karan and I took to DG's pastor's conference in Minneapolis of last year. The trip included flight standbys, delays, more delays, wrong information, sleeping in terminals. Only Chicago's famed nightmare airport could supply those things in abundance.

While working the standby at one gate we had the joy of seeing D.A. Carson board the same flight. A quick "Hi Don!" was in order. We were hoping and praying to board along with him, but it was not to be. There were over a hundred people on standby so our chances were very slim of boarding. We would never book a flight to Minneapolis via a stopover in Chicago again in the Winter. We would consider a direct flight from Manchester, NH to Minneapolis.

It's now time for me to get to the point. I didn't realize then that I was suffering from diabetes and probably had been for some time. How could I of all people have diabetes? After all I was not the soda pop, sugar smacking, lover of all things sweet, though I admit to having a fondness for grade "B" maple sugar and syrup. That was always a rare seasonal treat.

With the news comes a modified diet. Thankfully my diet will not be that different from before. I've always preferred natural and organic cereals to be free of added sweeteners. I prefer cereals that contain Spelt, Quindo and Kamut grains that are low on carbs and big on the good natural stuff. I also have preferred not to eat white stuff such as bleached flours and processed sugar products. Watch out for false labeling on food products!

I do confess to having a summer thing for cheap or rich creamy ice cream and throughout the year I was always a snacker. I love crunchy foods that are not rocky such as hard asparagus and carrots.

I've always been a label examiner. Years ago I was big into natural and organic gardening and cooking and I have now and then toyed with going the veggie route. I've never been big on fishy stuff but scallops and baked haddock make me happy when I'm in the mood for such.

If you are curious if I had any inkling as to what was happening to me I can honestly say I didn't. I should have though! I had for the last two years a big thirst for water and more water and was never too far from a rest room. Sweetened products bid give me a slight buzz every now and then. There are other signs so read up on them.

Oh yes, need I remind you, I am married to a most wonderful woman. The doctor has also spoken to her. Now at last she and I may agree on how we are to plan our diet. For her it is less salt. This should be interesting.

We seek your prayers for continued guidance and strength as we purge our temples of excessive salt, sugar and of course the fat we've harvested along the way. Who said it was going to be easy?

Love you all!
